Step into a world of enchantment with NJCYB’s Nutcracker — where fairy tale stories come alive on stage! Discover the joy of performing in a beloved ballet that’s a holiday tradition for thousands.

Auditioning for the 2025 Nutcracker with New Jersey Civic Youth Ballet (NJCYB) is a chance to bring a timeless holiday classic to life while growing as a performer.

We welcome dancers ages 5–18 to audition and be part of this magical production. NJCYB offers expert instruction, a professionally produced performance, and a supportive environment where dancers of all levels can thrive. Our cast members have the unique opportunity to share the stage with professional ballerinas, gaining invaluable experience and inspiration.

From the sparkle of the costumes to the magic of the stage, The Nutcracker is more than a performance—it's an unforgettable journey filled with confidence, artistry, and lasting memories.

 

NUTCRACKER 2025 – DECEMBER 19TH - 21ST AT CENTENARY UNIVERSITY

Audition Information

  • Date: Saturday, September 13th

  • Time: 2:30-4:30pm

  • Location: North Jersey School of Dance Arts, 400D Valentine St, Hackettstown, NJ 07840

  • Dancers ages 5 and up are encouraged to audition.

  • Registration for the audition is REQUIRED. Please click HERE to register.

  • Dancers must register for the audition by 5pm on Friday, September 12th.

  • Only registered dancers will receive the audition schedule by the evening of Friday, September 12th.

  • Audition Fee: $30

Participation fees

  • Full Time Member: Total Fee: $300

    • Includes $30 audition fee due on 9/13

    • Includes $270 membership fee for both Nutcracker and the spring show due on 9/26 - casting is not guaranteed, please do not submit membership payment until preliminary casting has been released

  • Part Time Member: Total Fee: $200

    • Includes $30 audition fee due on 9/13

    • Includes $170 Nutcracker membership fee due on 9/26 - casting is not guaranteed, please do not submit membership payment until preliminary casting has been released

  • The fees are non-refundable even in the event that the performance is canceled.

 Rehearsal Information

  • Dates: September 26th - December 13th

    • There are no rehearsals the weekend of October 31st and November 1st and the weekend of November 28th and 29th.

  • Fridays - 5:30-8:30

  • Saturdays - 2:30-7:30

  • Depending on casting, dancers will be called for rehearsals anytime in the rehearsal windows listed above. A rehearsal schedule will be emailed to the families each week.

  • Absences will not be tolerated. Missing more than 1 week of rehearsal may result in the loss of your part.

  • Always arrive to rehearsal warmed up and ready to begin.

Dress Rehearsal and Performance Schedule

  • Wednesday, December 17th at 4pm - Dress Rehearsal 1

  • Thursday, December 18th at 4pm - Dress Rehearsal 2 

  • Friday, December 19th at 7pm - Performance 1

  • Saturday, December 20th at 12pm - Performance 2

  • Saturday, December 20th at 5pm - Performance 3

  • Sunday, December 21st at 2pm - Performance 4

  • Dress rehearsals are mandatory!

Family Obligations

  • Each family is required to purchase 6 tickets during the performance weekend

  • Each family is required to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours. These hours can be split however is convenient between pre-performance and performance hours. To ensure participation, NJCYB requires each family to post a $150 volunteer deposit check due on 9/26. Your check is simply held and returned upon completion of the required hours.

  • Each family is required to post at least 1 Nutcracker poster in a public area.

  • Each family is required to purchase 10 50/50 raffle tickets ($100). Cash or check payment only due on 9/26.

  • A parent meeting will be held on Friday 9/26 at 5:45pm. This meeting is required for all first time NJCYB families and suggested for all returning families.

Our dancers train and perform alongside professional ballerinas and highly experienced instructors, gaining first hand insight into the discipline, artistry, and technique required at the highest levels. This rare opportunity provides not only skill development but also meaningful mentorship, inspiring young dancers to grow in confidence, refine their craft, and pursue their goals with guidance from those who have walked the professional path.

WHO SHOULD AUDITION

We welcome dancers ages 5 to 18 at all skill levels to audition for The Nutcracker. Roles are assigned based on experience, ability, and the needs of the production to ensure the best fit for every dancer.
